Yarmouth is located on the southwest tip of Nova Scotia. We have a dynamic natural setting and an engaging cultural history. However, many of the natural and manmade features of this place are not noticed or cared for. We want to bring the excitement about our home into public awareness and engage people in its discovery through mapping.
In the past we have used summer students in the Youth Conservation Corps program of our province. That worked well until the YCC changed its focus. We are currently in the process of revitalizing our program and we hope to work with people in the Nova Scotia Community College geomantic and geographic sciences programs.
Our group consists of a few volunteers who participate in a wide range of activities. We are currently focusing on working with local middle and high schools on their Adopt-a-Stream projects as beginning point for wider area mapping in the future.
